gastric stasis and gastritis

  • metoclopramide - first line for gastric stasis
    • oral:10mg - 20mg qds before meals
    • s.c. : 30-100mg/24hr

  • domperidone is an alternative to metoclopramide
    • oral: 10mg-20mg qds
    • p.r. 30-60mg tds
    • note that domperidone does not cross the blood brain barrier so fewer side effects

  • proton pump inhibitors are used in gastritis

  • an antiflatulent eg Asilone 5-10ml qds helps as a defoaming agent
