Systemic sclerosis is a heterogeneous group of connective tissue diseases which are characterised by fibrosis of the skin and internal organs.
Various subsets of systemic sclerosis are distinguished by the degree of involvement of the skin versus internal organs.
Systemic sclerosis is part of the scleroderma family of connective tissue disorders.
