Hot-spot myocardial scintigraphy is a rarely-used tool in the diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction.
Intravenously administered tectnetium-99m pyrophosphate is selectively taken up by infarcted myocardium resulting in a localised "hot-spot".
The sensitivity of hot-spot scintigraphy is greatest during the first week after a myocardial infarction.
