treatment of pre-menopausal osteoporosis

There is no established treatment and all premenopausal women suspected of having osteoporosis should be referred for investigation and further management to a specialist centre.
Examples include non-pregnant women with pre-menopausal amenorrhoea for more than 6 months due to:
- anorexia / bulimia nervosa
- athletic amenorrhoea
- gonadotrophin releasing hormone or its analogues
