dislocated phalanges
Last reviewed 01/2018
- common injury in ball sports - a posterior dislocation of one or more phalanges may result from direct impact of the ball.
- if the injury is treated promptly then analgesia is not necessary for reduction of the injury. If there is delay then a digital ring block can be inserted before reduction of the dislocation.
- if there is a fracture dislocation then generally it is necessary to undertake open reduction and internal fixation.
