Features which must be taken into account in the pharmacokinetics of antibiotics include:-

  • meningitis - penetration of antibiotics into CSF
  • osteomyelitis - bone penetration, penicillin resistant organisms - linomycin, clindomycin, fusidic acid
  • bile - ampicillin, amoxycillin, tetracycline
  • infective endocarditis, high doses - valve tissue, vegetations
  • UTI tissue and urine
