comparison of Alzheimer's disease and DLB

The following features may help to differentiate Alzheimer's disease (AD) from dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB):
- memory loss:
- AD: usually the presenting feature with significantly worse memory functioning
- DLB: memory may be relatively normal in the early stages
- course:
- AD: progressive
- DLB: progressive with marked fluctuations
- parkinsonism (unsteady gait, bradykinesia, cogwheeling):
- AD: late stages
- DLB: early stages
- hallucinations:
- AD: not a major feature
- DLB: a hallmark feature.
