Last reviewed 11/2020
This is the examination of the cervix under magnification with vital staining. It is used as an adjunct to cytology once neoplastic cells have been identified. Colposcopy is used to define areas for histologic assessment and for treatment. It is a relatively time consuming process and so, is not practicable for screening. Counselling is an important part of the procedure.
