Physiotherapy, rehabilitation, and orthopedic surgery are the mainstays of treatment in moderate to severe forms of osteogenesis imperfecta
Fractures usually heal easily - however in severe cases the long bones may become increasingly bent and the child may become unable to walk. In these severe cases, despite operations to straighten the limbs, poor function is usually only possible and and the patient may become wheelchair bound.
Bisphosphonate treatement can bring significant additional improvements (1).
