Labyrinthitis is the commonest cause of acute vertigo associated with sweating, nausea, vomiting, pallor and occasional diarrhoea (1).

Clinical features of labyrinthitis include:

  • nystagmus - towards the side opposite to the lesion.
  • there may also be a profound sensorineural deafness.
