brush cells

Brush cells are cells found throughout the respiratory tree from main bronchi to alveoli:
- usually clustered in groups within the respiratory epithelium
- the apical surface has an array of blunt microvilli
- often associated with neurones on their basal surface and for this reason are purported to have sensory functions
