Young's syndrome

Last reviewed 01/2018

Young's syndrome is the triad of:

  • bronchiectasis
  • rhinosinusitis
  • reduced fertility

In these patients, ciliary activity is normal but the mucus is abnormally viscus.

Reduced fertility is due to functional obstruction of sperm transport down the genital tract at the level of the caput epididymis where the sperm are found in viscous, lipid-rich fluid.
