Pubarche is the part of puberty which is the result of the action of testosterone.
The features include:
- penile enlargement, firstly by length and then by circumference
- nocturnal, REM sleep erections
- hair growth on the chest, face and legs
- voice changes - decreasing pitch
- increased muscle mass
- increased haemoglobin secondary to increased red blood cell mass
