clinical features

The clinical features of Fourniere's Gangrene often follow a standard progression:

  • initial features of systemic sepsis:
    • tachycardia
    • sweating
    • pyrexia
    • malaise
  • genital pain and tenderness
  • skin oedema in the perineum or genitalia
  • erythema of perineal or genitalia skin
  • ecchymosis, blistering or epidermolysis of skin
  • subcutaneous crepitus
  • worsening pain out of proportion to the visible signs
  • fixed staining and then necrosis of skin
  • often an open wound with serosanguinous discharge
