secretin

Secretin is a gastrointestinal hormone that originating from S cells in the duodenum and upper jejunal mucosa in response to intraluminal acid.
It is a polypeptide of 27 amino acids.
Functions include:
- stimulation of pancreatic bicarbonate secretion
- enhanced secretion of pancreatic enzymes in response to cholecystokinin
- inhibition of acid secretion; stimulation of pepsin secretion
- causes a rapid rise in gastrin levels in a patient with a gastrinoma
- increased flow of hepatic bile
- increased glucose-induced insulin secretion
