PNDS can be caused by a number of different conditions which disturbs the normal production of mucus from the nasal and sinus cavities (1). These include:

  • allergic rhinitis
  • enlarged adenoids
  • sinusitis/gastroesophageal reflux
  • polyps (cystic fibrosis)
  • mucociliary dysfunction
  • anatomical anomalies
  • smoking and exposure to toxins
