Lofgren syndrome

Is an acute presentation of sarcoidosis.
- consists of erythema nodosum, arthralgia, systemic malaise, and bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy on chest radiography
- common in northern European countries, rare in patients of African or Japanese
origin.
- It is seen in
- 30% of Caucasians with sarcoidosis
- 10% of Asians
- but is rare in blacks (2)
- It is seen in
- a clinical diagnosis of sarcoidosis can be assumed without tissue conformation in patients with Löfgren syndrome (1)
- is strongly associated with H LA DQB1*0201 in British and Dutch patients
- prognosis is excellent and the patients usually recover spontaneously (1)
