defibrillation procedure

The procedure for defibrillation involves:
- applying conductive material
- turning on defibrillator
- checking position of the pads
- selecting energy level on the defibrillator
- charging the electrodes
- placing electrodes and applying pressure - 11 kg or 25 pounds is optimum
- giving the command to clear the bed
- performing a visual sweep to ensure no-one is touching the bed
- discharging the pads
Immediately after any shock the pulse should be checked before looking at the ECG trace.
The conductive pads should be changed after four to six shocks.
