ansa subclavia (anatomy)

The ansa subclavia is a part of the sympathetic paravertebral trunk on each side of the spinal cord. It is the part that passes anterior to the subclavian artery. It may pass between any of the following structures depending on the position of the subclavian artery and structure of the most inferior cervical ganglion:
- middle cervical sympathetic ganglion and inferior ganglion
- middle and stellate ganglion
- inferior and first thoracic ganglion
- inferior and second thoracic ganglion
