A parkinsonism gait is the manner of walking that is seen in patients with parkinsonism.

Characteristics of this gait are:

  • hesitation in starting: akinesia
  • small, shuffling, hurried steps: 'marche a petit pas'
  • festination
  • lack of normal arm swing
  • kinesia paradoxica

With the aid of a walking frame, the parkinsonian patient is often able to initiate a normal walking cycle.
