There are both invasive and non-invasive means of investigating the primary site of pathology for stroke:
- non-invasive methods:
- ultrasound - if normal, no need for more invasive methods
- cardiac imaging:
- transthoracic echocardiography
- transoesophageal echocardiography
- invasive methods:
- angiography
