acromioclavicular dislocation (persistent)

Last reviewed 03/2021

This condition is the result of an acromioclavicular dislocation that was not reduced. The original injury results from a more severe form of the force that cause an acromioclavicular dislocation, ie a fall on the shoulder. The fall causes sufficient stress to tear the acromioclavicular ligaments and the stronger coracoclavicular ligaments.

The patient presents with a bony prominence.

This condition, though causing deformity, does not result in much disability. An operation is seldom undertaken.
