Syncope is a sudden but brief loss of consciousness which is caused by inadequate blood supply to the brain.
Recovery is spontaneous and rapidly complete.
Syncope is common, disabling and possibly associated with sudden cardiac death.
The diagnosis of syncope may be difficult.
