Causes include:

  • idiopathic
  • infiltrations or granulomatous disease:
    • amyloidosis - commonest cause in the UK
    • sarcoidosis
    • malignancy, such as leukaemic infiltration
    • haemochromatosis
  • eosinophilic endomyocardial disease
  • endomyocardial fibrosis
  • familial storage disease:
    • glycogen storage disease
    • mucopolysaccharidoses
  • endocardial fibroelastosis
