Diastolic blood flow through the coronary arteries depends on the pressure difference between the coronary ostia and the coronary sinus.

Thus, ischaemic heart disease may caused by:

  • low aortic pressure caused by haemorrhage, shock or aortic stenosis
  • high right atrial pressure caused by tricuspid regurgitation
  • left sided heart failure
