Presentation is commonly with:

  • a sore swelling on the vulva
  • slight bleeding
  • offensive, purulent discharge - indicating infection
  • dysuria

Longstanding pruritus may be associated with pre-existing vulvar dystrophy.

Vulvar carcinoma usually appears as an ulcer with irregular, raised edges (ulceration is an early feature), or as warty lesions. It may be pigmented.

Five percent are multifocal, the most common sites including - in order of frequency:

  • labia majora
  • labia minora
  • clitoris
  • perineum
