teratoma (ovarian)
Last reviewed 01/2018
The immature or malignant teratoma is uncommon in the ovary, unlike the comparable lesion in the testis. Dermoid cysts are the predominant ovarian teratoma (see linked item).
Rarely, malignant change may occur in a benign teratoma, usually in older age groups, and predominantly as a squamous cell carcinoma of the skin lining the cyst.
