perianal disease

The perianal manifestations of Crohn's disease:

  • most commonly associated with colonic disease
  • characteristic lesions, including:
    • violaceous fleshy skin tags
    • fistulae
    • abscesses
    • ulceration
    • fissures
  • constipation and spurious diarrhoea may be the result of anal or rectal stenosis
  • overt rectal bleeding; stools may be positive for faecal occult blood
