Psychosurgery is brain surgery which is performed to treat psychiatric disease.

Psychosurgery is rare, about 50 operations are performed per year in the UK.

The most common operation is a bifrontal leukotomy.

There is no conclusive data on efficacy but case studies suggest that depressed patients have a 60% chance of being well or improved at 1 year.
