inferior vena caval orifice (anatomy)

The inferior vena caval orifice is the aperture through which the inferior vena cava returns blood from the lower half of the body to the right atrium. It is situated in the sinus venarum part of the chamber and its relations are:
- medial: atrial septum
- lateral: crista terminalis
- inferomedial: tricuspid orifice
- superior: superior vena caval orifice
- inferior: valve of inferior vena cava
Anteroinferiorly, the orifice is lined by a semi-lunate valve - the valve of the inferior vena cava.
