phalangeal fracture dislocation
Last reviewed 01/2018
Injury to one of the interphalangeal joints may occur from:
- a direct blow - often with associated soft tissue injury
- forcible hyperextension
- forcible stubbing of a straight finger
X-ray may show that an avulsed fragment of bone.
These injuries are difficult to treat and, poorly managed, may result in considerable stiffening from fibrosis and scarring.
