late clinical features

Clinical features of late syphilis do not usually occur until after 2 years of age. These take the form of stigmata relating to early damage to developing structures:
- facial abnormalities including frontal bosses, saddle nose, protruding mandible, Hutchinson's teeth, facial gumma
- sabre tibia - tibial periostitis
- interstitial keratitis
- eighth nerve deafness
- periostitis and Clutton's joints
- juvenile neurosyphilis
- paroxysmal cold haemoglobulinuria
