management of malignant hypertension

- admit to hospital - take regular measurements of blood pressure; strict bed rest
- do not reduce blood pressure too rapidly because of possible cerebral infarction in watershed areas
- aim to reduce the blood pressure to 110 mm Hg diastolic over 24 hours
