- the National Service Framework for older people states that all patients with acute stroke require urgent admission to hospital (1). This allows:
- medical stabilisation
- assessment of factors that may lead to complications
- CT brain scans should be performed within 48 hours and aspirin given to patients with ischaemic stroke
