superior vagal ganglion (anatomy)

A superior vagal ganglion forms on each side of the skull within the inferior end of the jugular foramen along the course of the respective vagus nerve. It is slightly superior to the inferior vagal ganglion.
On each side, the superior ganglion contains the cell bodies of afferent fibres from the:
- auricular branch of the vagus nerve
- meningeal branch of the vagus nerve
