These include:
- oesophageal diverticula, stenoses, tumours, advanced varices, and perforated viscus.
Relative contraindications:
- previous chest irradiation.
- severe atlantoaxial joint disease that prohibits sufficient neck flexion for the procedure
Anticoagulant therapy is not a contraindication.
