ERCP pancreatitis

The incidence of pancreatitis in patients undergoing ERCP is approximately 3%.
The mortality for ERCP-associated pancreatitis is 20%. This compares unfavourably with the general population of acute pancreatitis patients and may be because:
- patients undergoing ERCP are often elderly
- patients are often jaundiced
