Neuropathic pain is caused by:

  • metabolic causes:
    • diabetes mellitus
    • Fabry's disease

  • infective:
    • postherpetic neuralgia

  • inflammatory:
    • Rheumatoid neuropathy

  • neoplastic:
    • tumour invasion of nerve
    • radiotherapy and chemotherapy

  • trauma and phantom limbs

  • toxic:
    • alcoholic neuropathy
