follow-up

Last reviewed 01/2018

At the follow-up appointment to a genetic counselling session, one must discover the family's present attitude to an inheritable disease. Often repeated appointments are required as acceptance of the problem may be gradual.

One must keep an open mind to doing wider family genetic studies in the following groups:

  • balanced chromosomal rearrangements
  • autosomal dominant traits
  • X-linked recessive traits

If a new test arises for a particular condition, one must consider giving it to an affected family on a genetic disease register.
