risk factors for acute Achilles rupture

Several risk factors have been identified as contributing factors for acute rupture:

  • local corticosteroids
  • vascular degeneration/irregularities
  • systemic corticosteroids
  • hyperthermia of tendon
  • peritendinous injections
  • training errors
  • Fluoroquinolones
  • malalignment of foot and/or ankle
  • degenerative changes in tendon
  • chronic Tendinopathy (with Haglund’s Deformity) (1)
