popliteal artery (anatomy)

The popliteal artery is the continuation of the femoral artery in the leg. It runs through the popliteal fossa posterior to the knee joint. It supplies branches to the knee joint before dividing into anterior and posterior tibial arteries.
The popliteal artery is a common site for atherosclerosis and aneurysms.
