The incidence of complex regional pain syndrome is:- 1-2% of all fractures
- 2-5% after peripheral nerve injury
- 7-35% after Colles fracture
- 5% of patients with a myocardial infarction; results in the shoulder hand syndrome
- may occur after local cold injury - trench foot
It may be more common in individual who are prone to anxiety, females and smokers. The typical age of onset is between 30 and 50 years of age.
