  • bursitis
    • trochanteric bursitis - point tenderness directly over the greater trochanter is suggestive of the diagnosis.
    • ilopsoas bursitis.
  • leg length inequalities - can be a result of hip osteoarthritis as well as being a cause.
  • spinal osteoarthritis - often co-exists with hip osteoarthritis - may present with pain in the buttock or hip - may also occur as a complication of hip osteoarthritis.
  • intra-articular complications - collapse, fractures, synovitis, haemorrhage
