Possible clinical features include:

  • schizophrenic thought disorder, for example
    • concrete thinking
    • loosening of associations

  • disorders of the stream of thought, including
    • pressure of thought
    • poverty of thought
    • thought blocking

  • delusions, sometimes preceded by delusional mood
    • may be primary or secondary

  • abnormalities of mood
    • mood change (such as depression, anxiety, irritability, euphoria)
    • blunting of affect
    • incongruity of affect

  • hallucinations
    • auditory hallucinations are one of the commonest symptoms of schizophrenia
    • visual hallucinations are less frequent
    • other modalities: occasionally
