magnetic resonance angiography

Last reviewed 01/2018

This is an application of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) which is used for imaging blood vessels and the heart. In MRA there is a 90ø radiofrequency pulse. The image is then focused using reversal of the readout gradients. The parameters are then used to produce white blood images.

MRA has several advantages:

  • cine type images of cardiac function can be produced in a few seconds
  • angiographic images of stationary vascular structures within seconds
