pacemakers in atrial fibrillation
Last reviewed 05/2021
Pacemakers may be indicated in patients where paroxysmal fast atrial fibrillation is a feature of the sick sinus syndrome. Regular atrial pacing alone or in combination with ventricular pacing gives best results.
Radiofrequency ablation of the atrioventricular node with insertion of a permanent pacemaker may be used to treat resistant supraventricular arrhythmias such as atrial fibrillation.
