clinical features

Systemic symptoms include:

  • fatigue
  • myalgia
  • arthralgia
  • Raynaud's phenomenon

More specific features include:

  • keratoconjunctivitis sicca
  • xerostomia
  • parotid, or other salivary gland, enlargement - occurs in 66% of patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome; it is uncommon in secondary Sjogren's syndrome
  • chest - possibly infection secondary to decreased mucus secretion
  • kidneys:
    • renal tubular acidosis
    • nephrogenic diabetes insipidus
    • Fanconi's syndrome
    • glomerulonephritis
  • genital tract:
    • atrophic vaginitis
    • dyspareunia
  • pseudolymphoma - splenomegaly and lymphadenopathy which may progress to a B cell lymphoma in about 6% of patients
  • peripheral neuropathy

Other features of connective tissue dysfunction may be present.
