nicotine inhalator

- the inhalator consists of a mouthpiece and a replaceable nicotine cartridge
- the inhalator is sucked and the nicotine vapour is drawn into the mouth.
The nicotine is absorbed throught the buccal mucosa - there is little or none
of the nicotine vapour that reaches the lungs
- the maximum level of nicotine dose is achieved after approximately 20 minutes
of intense use - each cartridge can be used for up to three twenty-minute
sessions
- 6-12 cartridges are used per day for 8 weeks then the dose is tapered down
to zero over the following 4 week period
- possible side effects specific to the inhalator include irritation of the throat and cough (1)
