pre-renal causes of postoperative renal failure
Last reviewed 01/2018
Pre-renal causes include:
- hypotension, hypovolaemia - bleed, fluids. Losses perioperatively - evaporative, open abdomen etc.
- Endotracheal tube losses - no moisture loss etc
- Third spacing - loss of fluid to extracellular space pathologically with tissue damage. Abnormal fluid shifts.
- Cardiac suppression - negative inotropic effect of anaesthesia
