Diverticulitis is the most common cause, arising in 2-4% of such cases.
Other causes include:
- carcinoma of the bladder invading the colon
- carcinoma of the colon invading the bladder
- Crohn's disease
- radiation bowel injury
- external trauma
- foreign bodies
